He wants to team up with Ganassi driver and fellow dirt ace Kyle Larson

After a brief stint in NASCAR, Rico Abreu has willfully determined that he would prefer to spend the remainder of his career in Sprint Cars and Midgets.

With that said, he has one significant race that he wants to scratch off his personal bucket list: The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

After winning his way into the Chili Bowl A-Main on Wednesday night, the two-time Golden Driller winner reaffirmed his desire to make a start in the Indianapolis 500 someday.

“I think so,” Abreu said. “I really have to take time and put some serious thought into it. I think it’s a very prestigious event, a lot like the Chili Bowl.”

Abreu said he has some friends who could help him run it, saying ‘Chip Ganassi’ under a playful cough to get his point across.

“I need to give him a call and see if I can talk him into teaming me and Kyle (Larson) up to run it.

Ganassi has previously said that he would consider entering Larson into the Indianapolis 500 once he won a Cup Series race, and most recently, that any of his organization’s cars would be open to any of his drivers under the right circumstance. Ganassi fields entries in NASCAR, IndyCar and Sports Car competition.

For his part, Abreu is one of the most successful dirt open wheel drivers in North America, a path that used to lead right to 16th and Georgetown.

Regardless of if Abreu ever returns to NASCAR for a one-off or achieves his Indy 500 dreams, he has no plans of leaving Sprint Car and Midget racing.

“This is my future, running Sprint Cars and Midgets, and this is all I want to do,” he said.
