EARLY 2020 SCHEDULE RELEASED FOR CANYON SPEEDWAY PARK! BY:  Tony Steele

As Champions are crowned and the season nears a close at the 3/8 mile Dirt Oval in Peoria, Doug Gabbard and his staff are preparing for the 2020 campaign.

The 2020 IMCA Winter Challenge will once again host National and Regional points events for the Modifieds, Sport Mods, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks. Dwarf Cars will join the IMCA classes during the first weekend of racing while the Arizona Micro Sprints (Wing) will be a part of the second weekend. An Open Practice will be held on both Friday January 24th and Friday January 31st for all divisions with racing scheduled to take place each of the following Saturday’s and Sunday’s with a 1pm start time.

All IMCA divisions will see an increase in pay from years past as the Modifieds will race for a large $1,250 pay day at each event while Sport Mods and Stock Cars shoot for $1,000 to win. Hobby Stocks and Micro Sprints will both be racing for $500 to win each of their races. The headlining Modifieds were dominated during the 2019 portion of the event as Ricky Thornton Jr swept all three shows en route to his 250th career feature win.

As February rolls on, the USAC Southwest 410 Sprint Cars will head to Peoria for the 4th Annual Steve Stroud Memorial. For the first time since the inception of the event, at the request of many drivers and fans, the Steve Stroud Memorial will be a 2 day event! An Open Practice will be scheduled for Thursday February 13th with racing scheduled for Friday February 14th and Saturday February 15th. IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Hobby Stocks and Arizona Micro Sprints (Non-Wing) will join the card for the premier event.

SWDRA Late Models will hit Canyon for the first time next season on Friday February 21st and Saturday February 22nd with a two day headliner at the CSP Meltdown. The doubleheader will also include the IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Hobby Stocks and Modlites. Joining the action will also be the Vintage Cars who will hit the track during both nights of the event.

Championship racing will kick off the month of March as track points will begin for the IMCA classes and Micro Sprints at the CSP Spring Showcase. Thursday March 5th will host an Open Practice for all divisions while one of the biggest events of the year takes place on Friday March 6th and Saturday March 7th. Fans of all types of racing will be pleased as the AMSOIL USAC/CRA and Southwest Series 410 Sprint Cars will venture to Canyon, co-headlining with the first points event of the year for the IMCA Modifieds. Sport Mods, Stock Cars and Arizona Micro Sprints (Wing) will also kick off their championship seasons during Spring Showcase action.
