As the valley heats up, the racing winds down during the summer months in Peoria. With only two events scheduled between mid June and Labor Day weekend, we stop for a moment to review the year that has been as well as look ahead at what’s to come during the second half of the season at CSP.

IMCA points competition is in full swing, set to conclude at the end of September for all five sanctioned divisions. Allscapes Stock Cars have five races remaining on the schedule while Arizona Differential Modifieds, Desert Restorations Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts have four events to go. Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer Sport Mods are winding down quickly with only two races left to crown a champion. Modifieds and Sport Mods will have two additional races as a part of the Thanksgiving Weekend Harvest Hustle event.

In Modified competition, John Parmeley has finally taken over the lead position with his last feature win, edging Ryan Roath by 2 points as the season begins to wind down. Parmeley leads the field with 4 feature wins and a staggering 93 laps led in 7 events. Roath, Kollin Hibdon and Jason Noll own the other three wins. With 4 races to go it should be a fight to the finish with Parmeley and Roath while Kenny Gill, Bill Slocum and Guy Norton are all within 6 points of each other battling for positioning in the top five.

Chase Rudolf has dominated CSP in the Sport Mod division, putting up 4 wins in 7 events, with 6 top 5 finishes and 56 feature laps led. Rudolf currently holds an 18 point advantage over 1 time feature winner David Jones in the standings. Taylor Kuehl recently picked up her first win and Darin Center has the other lone victory. Beyond Rudolf we’ve seen quite a bit of parity, with 13 different drivers posting a top 5 finish this year as well as 12 different drivers posting a feature lap led. Only 2 races remain to decide the championship for the Sport Mods.

The hottest battle for a championship lies within the Stock Car ranks as the top 3 drivers are only separated by 3 total points. Consistency has been key for point leader Cody Center as he sits on top with only 1 victory; but holds 7 top 5 finishes in the 7 races. Lonnie Foss sits 2 points back from the lead with 6 top 5 finishes, but no wins to date. While Center has 20 feature laps led to his name, George Fronsman has been in victory lane the most with 5 feature wins and 62 laps led. Fronsman has seen serious success this year, but beyond his wins he has no other top 5 finishes. This battle has 5 nights remaining on the schedule and should come down to the last lap.

Another tight race at the top of the standings is taking place in the Hobby Stock division with Bradley Stafford leading Joe Peterson by a single point; with both drivers being the only two in the field to post a top 5 in all 5 races. Stafford holds 1 win on the season with 20 feature laps led while Peterson holds 2 victories and 5 total laps led. Joe Vlasity holds the other 2 wins on the year with 42 laps led, sitting third in points, only 9 back from Stafford. Four races remain as the top 3 in points will race down to the final night in September.

Sport Compact action has seen 3 different winners in 5 races with Robert Cody on top of the standings. Cody holds 3 feature wins and 40 laps led while holding onto a 2 point lead over Jackie Parmeley. Parmeley has 1 feature win with 15 laps led for the year while Brian Zelenka holds the other feature win, along with 15 laps led to his name. John Barron sits in third in the standings only 9 points back from the lead with 4 races remaining on the schedule.

Beyond IMCA points competition the CSP schedule is full of fan favorite divisions throughout the remainder of the year. SWDRA Late Models have 2 regular season stops left on their schedule (7/20 & 10/12) as well as the 2 events during the Harvest Hustle and the ASCS Winged Sprint Cars will make 1 more visit (10/12) to the speedway. 3 different winners in 3 events for the Late Models include John Cornell, Craig Parker and Don Shaw while Eric Wilkins and Lorne Wofford picked up the 2 ASCS feature wins. The 410 USAC Southwest Sprints also have 1 more visit remaining to CSP during the Southwest Championships on September 14th. Brody Roa and Mike Martin earned feature wins in the 2 events on the CSP portion of their schedule earlier this year.

Arizona Micro Sprints have 4 points earning events remaining on the schedule with Brandon Sutton currently sitting atop the leaderboard. Mason Keefer (3), Cameron LaRose (2), Colton Hardy (2), Paul Martin (1) and Josh Castro (1) have all taken home a victory during the 2019 campaign. Dwarf Cars and Modlites will both see the track 3 more times during normal points competition. Darren Brown (2), Tyler Rodriguez (1) and Dustin Washburn (1) own feature wins in the Dwarf Cars while the Modlites have been dominated by John Priest (3) who has 51 laps led in 5 nights of action. Chaz Baca Jr and Phil Barrow also have wins in the Modlites. Beyond the points paying events, Dwarfs and Modlites will both see the track two additional times during their “Nationals” at the Harvest Hustle.
