The short offseason has almost concluded at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Arizona. Just six short days from press time, the first green flag of the year will drop at the racy 1/3 mile dirt oval. CSP will kick off the 2019 season with their annual Winter Challenge event. The 2019 event will take place on January 26h & 27th and February 2nd & 3rd with Open Practices available to all divisions on January 24th and February 1st

The 2018 Winter Challenge was dominated by Hunter Marriott and local ace Ricky Thornton Jr, with both drivers winning two features. We’ll look for more of the same in 2019 as Marriott and Thornton have dominated winter events in the state of Arizona over the last few years. The defending back to back track champion Chaz Baca Jr will lead the charge of a number of drivers trying to dethrone the dominating duo.

Speedy Madrid will be the favorite coming into the Northern Sport Mod season as he capped off the 2018 year with his first ever championship. Madrid captured two wins in the 2018 Winter Challenge as he sped off early towards his title winning season. Shane Simper and Jason George were also winners in last years January event.

George Fronsman captured another championship at CSP in the 2018 season, although a much tighter contest than years passed. Cody Center came on strong throughout the season and will look to find his way to victory lane quickly as he’ll once again be gunning for a Stock Car crown. Fronsman found himself as the winner of two races during last years event while Center took one and Colorado driver Joe Bellm snagged the other. Expect plenty of out of town competition to take on the locals in this growing division.

While Bradley Stafford captured the title in the IMCA Hobby Stocks in 2018, he was unable to get a win during the Winter Challenge event. Joe Vlasity swept the first three races while Joe Peterson put on a show on day four that had the crowd on their feet, edging Vlasity for the win. Stafford will look to turn the tables on the two Joe’s, as he’ll be gunning for the $250 paycheck when the Winter Challenge kicks off next weekend.

The IMCA Modifieds will be racing for $1,000 each day and a spot on the Fast Shafts Allstar Invitational Ballot. IMCA Northern Sport Mods will race for $750 to win each day with IMCA Stock Cars shooting for $500 to win and IMCA Hobby Stocks going for $250.
